The Ban Chiang traditions of Bronze age Thailand date as far back as 4000 BCE and were only discovered in the late 1960s. Before their discovery this area was considered the backwaters of China and India. They never expected to find such fine works of art. The shape and simple designs are elegant and sophisticated while still having a strong ethnographic feel. The painted decorations is an orange red over buff. It’s a beautiful partner to the other two listed on the site. Jewels has been collecting these ceramics for over 20 years.
