19th century, Africa
The lovely carved white shells are from Mauritania. They were worn in the hair and as amulets in jewelry. The others too were worn incorporated in jewelry, a more tasteful way to wear your money. We made the sterling findings. The post on the back side of the discs are surgical steel, as all of our post tops are.
