19th – early 20th century, Anti-Atlas Mountains region, Morocco, North Africa
The silver charms are niello etched, a process very traditional among the Berber people of the Ida Ou Nadif region. These silver charms are wonderfully abstract and quite unusual for this type of charm. The coral beads are beautifully sized and perfectly strung. The jewelry, silver and coral, define a woman’s wealth and is an important part of her wedding gift from her fiance.

(This piece has a lot of silver charms, but this photographer is just an amateur. The variegation in color is merely the reflection.)
