Mid 20th century, Berber Morocco
Handiras are traditional clothing, worn as capes, of the Berber and are superbly woven incorporating several techniques. Very often a woman would weave one to be worn the first time at her wedding. The blacks and brouns are variegated and there are few subtle indigo stripes among them that makes this piece very interesting. It is in very good condition; the colors are weather worn on one side and and there is some bleeding of the bright colors.
