200 CE – 1600 CE, Tairona, Colombia
This unusually simply designed gold bird was collected in the 1960s. Remains of hand etched lines can be seen on the flat body and the head is beautifully sculpted (or cast). The Tairona typically made highly decorated gold ornaments which makes this piece exceptional and very modern in aesthetic. It is a high Karat gold with any other metal that might have been present when extracted.
