Rare Khol Stick And Leather Necklace

Rare Khol Stick And Leather Necklace

Description

19th century, Berber, Morocco

A khol stick is an applicator for that black makeup (khol) the berber women wear.  It brings out the beauty and mystery.

They made these applicators from wood or metal, all of them gorgeously embellished with hand carving.  Jewels has been collecting these

applicators for years and is finding, like everything, the supply is finite.  This piece is superbly wrapped in leather and tied to a hand stitched and woven cord, also

superbly executed by our otherworldly talented Khadija.

Once upon a time beauty was in everything like the tools used to apply make up, thus enhancing more beauty.

Leather cord: 32.5″
