Early-mid 20th century, Amazigh (Berber), Morocco
Yes, a land contract. Jewels has collected these wonderful artifacts for years. They are becoming a lost art, though never intended as art. It is often the case objects of utility and importance, once upon a time, had innate beauty. Maybe it had to do with the intention. This piece is wood, the agreement written with a beautiful henna colored ink. As an art collector Jewels finds beauty in many objects of utility and as a jewelry designer almost any object of beauty is fitting for adornment: the eye of a true nomad. Khadija in our Marrakech studio superbly stitched the supple leather.
