Contracts were once written in stone, then clay, then wood. Paper fit in there too but wood, even into the 20th century,
made these agreements, say, more concrete.
To us, they are sculptural, beautiful artifacts of our species.
The text on this piece is Arabic and there is an official stamp in red. It could be for a piece of land, an animal, maybe a marriage.
We made our finest cord and rondelle, works of art on their own. The cord makes it wearable as a necklace or to hang on the wall.
